Naic was originally a barrio of Maragondon under the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Earlier it became part of the Jesuit Hacienda and a visita under the patronage of San Isidro Labrador was established in 1693. In 1796, the filipino secular clergy established it as an independent parish under the patronage of La Inmaculada Concepción. A small church made of stone was finished in 1840. During the tenure of Fr. Modesto de Castro, a convento made of stone was constructed and inaugurated in 1861. In this convento, Fr. Modesto de Castro finished his famous novel “Ang Pagsusulatan ni Urbana at Felisa” in 1863. In 1865 the parish was given to the Spanish Dominican friars who in 1830 had acquired the Hacienda de Naic. The Dominicans built a bigger church in neo-gothic style and a bigger convento was inaugurated in 1892. The church was partly damaged during the Second World War. The convent was used as a public school during the Japanese time and a temporary hospital during the liberation. The church was dedicated by H.E. Ricardo Cardinal Vidal D.D. on November 17, 1996 and it was declared as The Diocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1996 by Bishop Manuel Sobrevinas, D.D. The Convento was renovated in 2009 and was blessed by the Most Rev. Luis Antonio G. Tagle D.D. on November 16, 2009.
