Brief History

The Center for Biblical and Pastoral Studies (formerly Capiz Bible

Institute) was conceived by the Capiz Kasapulanan of Baptist Churches, Inc. in response to the need for Pastoral leadership particularly in the rural churches in the province of Capiz. It was formally launched through a resolution by CKBC in its Assembly at Camburanan Baptist Church, Tapaz in April of 1989, calling for the establishment of a Bible School. This action was implemented on November 16, 1990. The Capiz Bible Institute was opened by CKBC in cooperation with Capiz Evangelical Church, which provided the venue and facilities – a two year Diploma in Christian Ministry was offered.
After almost five years of operation, the program underwent evaluation. A series of consultation of the representatives from Capiz Kasapulanan of Baptist Churches, Filamer Christian College, and Capiz Evangelical Church were held. In these consultations, the need for continuing the program was affirmed. Consequently, the name was changed to Center for Biblical and Pastoral Studies, and its purpose redefined to include continuing education for Ministers.
Moreover the Management of the Center was later decided upon by CKBC to be entrusted to Filamer Christian College with a view of stabilizing and upgrading the program. While in Filamer a four- year diploma in Christian ministry was offered and seven students graduated. And at the same time, the paper for CHED recognition was on the process.
CHED approved the course AB Religion, under the College of Arts and Sciences, a four year degree course leading to Pastoral Ministry in S.Y. 1999-2000.
After seven years of operation the name AB – Religion was changed to AB – Theology in SY 2006 – 2007 with an additional of one year for internship instead of a four-year course.
