Espoir, “hope” in French, means hope for the children, hope for their families, and hope for their generations to come. Hope starts with the children, with the right education.
The first school is in Siargao, in the South of the Philippines. It started in Summer 2016 with a first class of 17 kids aged 4. We plan to follow those kids all the way until they are ready to go to University, and then help them find a job.
We have started with one classroom, and in 13 years we should have about 350 students.
Our own hope, apart from making meaningful changes to those children and give them a future, is that one day some of those children will be successful, and will come back to develop their village/province.
The educational program is practical. It will give children a set of skills & values that will be useful in everyday life and helpful to secure employment once their studies are completed.
We teach them life skills such as respect, team work, family, pride, love, tolerance & compassion.
Education is free of charge. However, parents of students have to commit to the project and provide a number of hours to help in cooking, farming, teaching & maintenance.
We have built a farm on campus to feed them, as well as educate them about farming and sustainability.
