Oro Site is a barangay located at the commercial center of Legazpi City in the Province of Albay, Bicol Region, in the Island of Luzon, Republic of the Philippines. Oro site contributed a lot for both social and economic boom of the city, wither in agricultural or in commercial function. Just recently, Oro Site was awarded by the national government for its excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness with the Gawad Kalasag Award.EtymologyLong before 1940's, Oro Site is a swampy area surrounded by Nipa grooves and other water plant. Some men came with their lumber business. This lumber have the powdered form called kusot, the waste materials resulted from the sawing lumbers. These kusot was thrown away to this place making the swampy area to a landfill. As time passed this landfill became a mountain which was called as the "Red Mountain" by some people. Later on this red mountain was called as "Oro-orabang" because of its color and also because it shapes like a very small shrimps which we call Orabang.Later on as time passed, the place was invaded by some people and makes it as their homestead. Many people lived in the place and later on the name was changed to Oro Site--shortened name from Oro-orabang. Explained further, "oro" from the gold color of the sawdust. The people added "site" meaning location, because the place is situated near the PNR Site.DemographicsBrgy.
