The town of Aliaga comprises of twentysix barrios or baranggay..The old name of the town was "Pulong Bibit" or dumping ground for human skeletons as they say during the early years..which was just ricefields and water before the Spaniards came and conducted planning of developing the area into one of Nueva Ecija's more modern towns. the name Aliaga came from the same town in Teruel, Spain.. The title Nuestra Senora de las Saleras or Our Lady of the Saltbeds was given to the marian image only after an almost unfortunate incident of the seafarers on their way to the Philippine islands. The 120cm statue believed to be a depiction of the Lady of the Rosary or the Lady of Mt Carmel was coined after the Galleon bearing the image of our Lady almost capsized due to heavy storms, and salts covered the whole image of ivory and wood.
