THE COMPANY`S PROFILE
The Dagyaw Baile , formerly known as Dagyaw Theatre and Dance Company, is the Flagship of Cultural Excellence of the Iloilo National High School with the leadership of Nordy D. Siason Jr. Ed. D., CESE (Principal IV/INHS). Dagyaw is composed of high school students enrolled in the School for the Arts, majoring in dance. It was organized in July 16, 1990 through the efforts of Dr. Riza S. Amaguin. With its present Artistic Director, Ria B. Española, Dagyaw maintains a 35- member troupe, which required to attend major classes, offered by the program in acting, ballet, folkdance, modern ballet and contemporary dance. Dagyaw started as a theatre group called Theatro Kabataan in 1987, which all its members were equally trained in all disciplines of drama and theatre. On the first year of its founding, the company was sent to two national tours with command performances at Malacañang Palace for former President Corazon Aquino. In 1992, they toured Japan upon the invitation of the Philippine Japan Cultural Organization, followed by performances in Bangkok for the International Arts Festival. In the same year, they joined the Midusoji Parade in Osaka Japan as the Philippine representative of the Department of Tourism. June 1992 Dagyaw was sent by the Cultural Center of the Philiipines (CCP) to the World Exposition in Seville, Spain, where they performed the world famous dance- drama, “Hinilawod” choreographed by Agnes Locsin. The same production was showcased for the 1994 Third Asean Dance Festival in Manila. After a year , they were again asked to represent the country in the International Festival for experimental Theatre in Cairo, Egypt. Some countries visited by Dagyaw were Pakistan, Singapore, Canada and United States of America.
After the term of Mr. Edwin C. Duero, Dagyaw underwent a minor change with Romel B. Flogen as the new Artistic Director from July 1998 to 2002. In 2002, Ms. Ria B. Española, took hold of the Company`s reins, as Artistic Director at present. At the end of 2007, Dagyaw Theatre and Dance Company became DAGYAW BAILE. It is still the same Dance Company that aims to sustain its glory as the world renowned dance company. Others say that Dagyaw is a phenomenon, but to the mentors and staffs, they`d like to believe that it is an EXPERIENCE with reliving again and again.
This Dance Company has established its name and glory, thus, each member has left a legacy for the next generation to experience and glorify as well as to answer their desire to be a part of DAGYAW BAILE .
