OUR HISTORY

In 1933, Barangay Sto.Domingo was still known as Barrio Dayap, where the first Tiniente del Barrio was appointed by the Municipal President. Upon the enactment of the Barrio Charter in 1959, The position of Barrio Lieutenant was changed to Barrio Captain. It was then that Brgy. Sto.Domingo was named separately from Barrio Dayap. A new set of officials was elected in May 16, 1982 where Gregorio Cruz became the Barangay Captain from 1986 to 1989. Exequiel Cruz was appointed Barangay Captain, followed by Atty. Jules Narag who was elected in 1989. During the following election in 1991, the former Barangay Captain Atty. Jules Narag won the seat as Municipal Councilor. Remy Fajardo was consequently appointed as acting Barangay Chairman to take up the remaining term of the predecessor. From 1994 to 2002, Mariano Urbano became the Barangay Captain of Barangay Sto. Domingo. Wilfredo F. Sulit succeeded the Chairmanship of the Barangay up to a third term.

The end of term for the former Barangay Chairman Wilfredo Sulit paved the way for the succession of his wife Rufina A. Sulit as Barangay Chairwoman of Sto.Domingo during the 2013 election. the former Chairwoman assumed the position from December 2013, but was only able to hold the position until March of the following year due to her passing on March 24, 2014. The Chairmanship of the Barangay was assumed by the incumbent Kagawad Janice Tacsagon following the death of the then Chair. Rufina Sulit. Currently, Barangay Sto.Domingo is being headed by the Punong Barangay Janice Tacsagon.

DEMOGRAPHIC DATA

Barangay Sto.Domingo is the third largest barangay in the Municipality of Cainta with a total area of 1,021.29 hectare. It is subdivided into seven zones with a total population of 53,652 and total households of 12,117. It is bounded by Brgy.San Isidro in the North; Brgy. San Andres in the South; Brgy. San Juan in the Northeast end portions of Brgy. Sto.Nino, and Brgy. Sta. Rosa in the East. This attributes to the rapid influx of immigrants from different provinces and from Metro Manila as well, who find the confines of the Municipality very strategic and convenient aside from being the commercial district of Cainta. The annual income is P23,340,337.00 with a total number of 25,326 registered voters and 115 precincts.

Barangay Sto. Domingo is predominantly classified as a first-class urban area. Besides having subdivisions, 19 private and public schools, 16 banks, and 8 manufacturing plants, food chains, and restaurants, stores, boutiques, and pawnshops including prominent establishments such as SM Hypermarket, Puregold, and Robinson's Place Cainta where Teletech Communications, one of the biggest call centers launched in the Philippines, is located, increased remarkably due to overwhelming demand of the people.
