Balyena.org is a non-profit organization formed in 2009 by a group of friends and colleagues who conduct research on whales and dolphins in the Philippines.

The idea for forming such a group came about after years of doing research, education, and conservation work on whales and dolphins around the Philippines. What started out for many of us as a serendipitous volunteer job opportunity developed into a passion for learning more about these animals, sharing the experience with others, spreading the knowledge and encouraging everyone to do their part in the conservation of whale and dolphin populations and their habitats in the Philippines.

We aim to provide baseline data for the management and conservation of whales and dolphins in the Philippines. By increasing knowledge and awareness about cetaceans in the country, we hope to increase the capacity of local communities for conducting cetacean research and promote active participation in conservation.

We are skilled and qualified trainers in marine mammal stranding response. We provide training for groups and communities that request and need it. We have extensive experience in responding to strandings and are willing to help whenever possible.

We are dedicated to educating the youth and general public about cetacean biology, research and conservation by providing up to date information, current news, and updates on local and international issues.
