Manila Broadcasting Company (MBS) traces its roots back to the “Voice of the Philippines” – KZRH, the oldest radio station in the Philippines which first went on air back in June 15, 1939. KZRH was so successful that within two (2) years of operation it was able to open a sister station in Cebu City, the DYRC.

After World War II, KZRH and DYRC dusted –off their old microphones not to fade-off from the air waves but to catapult its supremacy in radio broadcasting under the leadership of JM Elizalde and his brother Manuel who christened the new network as Manila Broadcasting Company or MBC.

KZRH became the country’s first radio station to undertake a nationwide-simulcast broadcast on July 15, 1949 from Basco, Batanes to Jolo, Sulo; and after that year, through a directive of the Swiss Radio Commission, the letter “K” in all local radio stations in the country was replace with the letter “D”, thus, DZRH was born.

In 1956, MBC expanded its broadcasting operation in the Visayas Region which paved way for the opening of DYVL – “The Voice of Leyte” in Tacloban City that manifested another success in the local broadcasting arena which further led to the opening of another sister station DYMS – The Modular Sound” which became the first Music Station to operate in Tacloban City, showcasing the latest “rock-n-roll hits” and “tender love songs” of the time.

When Martial Law was declared across the Philippine Archipelago in 1972; then President Ferdinand E. Marcos ordered that no two (2) radio stations owned by a single corporation should operate in one same area forcing MBC to shutdown DYMS – “The Modular Sound” but with a plan of relocating the station to another area somewhere in Samar.

It was in 1976 that DYMS – “The Modular Sound” again went on air but this time not in Tacloban City but in Catbalogan City, W. Samar, and after a series of radio surveys in the locality, DYMS – “The Modular Sound” became the champion of the airwaves in the entire Province of Samar.

At present, being the only surviving and now the only radio station operating at AM Band in the City of Catbalogan, DYMS AKSYON RADYO remains Number ONE!

We can’t help it but say, we’re Number One because we’re the Only One!
