The Fortaleza Rock Art Project 2.24

The Fortaleza Rock Art Project is focused on a large complement of rock art located on the Fortaleza Ignimbrite (FI), a spectacular geologic formation, situated high in the central Andes, at the headwaters of the Fortaleza and Santa Rivers, Ancash, Peru.
Our 2014 prospection of the FI identified one of the highest concentrations of rock art, at such high altitude, ever recorded. Recent excavations, in the summer of 2016, at the caves of Hatun Machay, Shacsha Machay, Diablo Retrato (4050-4255m.a.s.l.) have produced a great wealth and diversity of material, which are currently being processed.
