Incahuasi 2.12

Incahuasi is a volcanic mountain in the Andes of South America. It lies on the border of the Argentine province of Catamarca, and the Atacama Region of Chile. Incahuasi has a summit elevation of 6621m above sea level. The volcano consists of a 3.5km caldera and two stratovolcanoes. Four pyroclastic cones are located 7km to the north-east and produced basalt-andesite lava flows that cover an area of 10km2.Geography and geologyIncahuasi lies on the border between Chile and Argentina, close to Paso San Francisco. A major road crosses the border there.RegionalIncahuasi is located northeast of Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano in the world. Both volcanoes are found at the southern end of the Central Volcanic Zone. They together with El Fraile, El Muerto, Nevado Tres Cruces and El Solo form a long volcanic chain.
