My name is Wendy and with my partner Graham we'd like to welcome you to Wynyard Estate in Central Otago, NZ. We grow NZ saffron. Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world and NZ saffron rates amongst the best.

I am a chef by trade, so I am learning and using all the inside tricks in getting the best out of saffron for those foodies out there. And Graham holds a Ph.D. in Plant Science and worked on organic rice production in the USA at the University of California, Davis (the no:1 ranked Agricultural University in the world).

With over 11 years of practical business experience in property, business start-ups and commercialisation combined with our knowledge of food and plants we moved to Central Otago in 2012 with our dogs to grow saffron.

Central Otago's hot dry summer climate, ideal rainfall conditions and cool winter days are a perfect mix to grow pure saffron, arguably some of the best in the world.
