West End was Christchurch's first official suburb, formed in 1850. Originally favoured by the new city's professionals, the West End was seen as a huge of arts, culture and business where a thriving bohemian culture flourished. However, by the 1950s the name had disappeared, until now.
In 2016, the West End is once again Christchurch's hub of arts, culture and business and a suburb reborn.
