Wanaka's Oxbow Aquatrack is the newest track to join the series. This track's events will be held every Easter to coincide (every second year) with the "Warbirds over Wanaka".

They say that a new new track can bring out the best, and the worst in competitors. Such was the case at round five of the New Zealand Jet Sprint Championships, held at the new Oxbow Aquatrack in Wanaka on the Saturday of Easter weekend 2013. The competitors, as well as the 7000 strong crowd, had nothing but praise for the new facility, and know that it can only go from strength to strength in future years. There were a few parts of the rotation that, if done incorrectly, cost valuable time.

The New Zealand Jet Sprinting Championship is coming to Wanaka

It's the first time in 10 years or so that a National round of Jet Sprinting has come to the South Island.

It's all on the line for the three classes of boats racing. The 400's, The International Group A 400's and the menthanol sucking monsters that are the unlimited Superboats.

V8 Jet Sprint Boats have incredible manoeuvrability, at about 14 foot long with up 1500 horsepowers propelling the boats at break neck speed, they are certainly exciting. Racing in knee deep water and can accelerate from standing to over 120 km/h in two seconds. They pull upwards of 6 g's, that is more G force than a Formula 1 Race Car. Both Driver and Navigator have to have incredible concentration, and confidence with their equipment to navigate around the 6 islands presented and the brand new Wanaka facility.
