After graduating from study of Landscape and Design Layne worked with in various areas of the Horticulture industry for 6 years - in both New Zealand and abroad. Whilst in London, Layne was the understudy to top UK landscape designer Nicholas Silva, Silva Landscapes London (1999 – 2003). In 2003 Layne founded Space and Time Landscapes, originally based in London UK and relocated back to Stratford, Taranaki in 2004.
