Our Story

Tucked in one of Auckland’s most historical and charming buildings is a little oyster den with a martini buzz, Rockefeller Oyster Bar.

It’s a bit of a secret between locals, business lunchers and party animals alike (it is renowned for its private functions).

Named after the preparation of oysters Rockefeller, Tim Arnold (ex Moo Chow Chow, Clooney, Cibbo, Euro) and Camilla Martin set about its inception in 2015 after realising there was nowhere intimate and urban they themselves could go to let loose in while eating oysters and having the odd quaff of bub, while the babysitter took care of their four kids at home (the fifth works with his Dad at the bar).
Tim had been working in hospitality himself since his teens and felt the time was right to get this dream into his car.

Operating under the ethos of Luxury Punk, the two have set out to offer a unique experience for diners wanting something special, top service, beautiful dishes (not just New Zealand’s glorious seafood) and grower champagne by the glass without the stuffiness and pretension often included in the oyster and champagne marriage.

Due to their backgrounds in the music industry, (he of a band, she of radio) a puritanical approach has been taken to music, only vinyl is played -anything from Sam the Sham to Chopin.
There’s a little bit of something for everyone, no matter your stance on the Luxury Punk spectrum.
