What is Light It Orange?

During the week 4-10 March 2017, Kiwis will light it orange and shine a light onto the dark subject of domestic abuse.

This is our special week to raise awareness and much needed funds to continue Shine’s life-saving work with victims of domestic abuse.

Our sponsors and celebrity ambassadors will once again help us to spread the word and get more of you involved in 2017.

Why should I ‘Light It Orange’?

Every 5 minutes NZ Police respond to a domestic abuse incident, and only about 20% of domestic abuse is reported to the police. By ‘lighting it orange’ on 4-10 March 2017, you and your posse are standing with us, at Shine, to say that domestic abuse is not okay. And you’ll also be helping to raise much needed funds for Shine to continue helping victims of domestic abuse to get safe and stay safe.

Who can I 'Light It Orange' with?

Anyone and everyone! It'd be great if you went orange with your workplace, school, sports group, club, or even your flatmates.

Okay, I'm in! How do I register to 'Light It Orange'?

Who and what is Shine?

We're so glad you asked! We are NZ's leading specialist domestic abuse service provider, and we've been going since 1990. We know that to really solve the problem of domestic abuse, we need to invest some of our energy into getting our name 'out there' so that you can all join us and support the work that we are doing, and so we can see some serious change in the domestic abuse statistics in NZ.

Shine's free-to-call domestic abuse Helpline is 0508-744-633 and is answered 365 days a year, 9am to 11pm.
