Kua Hua Ake Te Ao Community Cafe and Garden 2.18

Kua hua ake Te Ao Cafe and Garden is a community project that operates on a donation basis. It was created to provide a place for the community of Linwood, to meet, treat themselves, and enjoy a little beauty and serenity in their day.

As the name describes, the project symbolises hope and new beginnings for this neighbourhood. Created by voluntary effort sourced from the local communtiy, Kua hua ake Te Ao Cafe and Garden will continue to be run and maintained by volunteer workers.

The Cafe seeks to provide affordable, delicious hot drinks in an all inclusive place. In recognition of the special nature of this area, it has been designated a drug and alcohol free space.

Kua hua ake Te Ao is a project of Te Whare Roimata Trust. Te Whare Roimata seeks to develop culturally appropriate, treaty-based, grassroots self-help responses to issues and concerns of the people of the eastern inner city neighbourhoods and urban Māori with the purpose of developing a more self-reliant and self-sufficient community that is better able to meet its needs. Te Whare Roimata achieves its aims by encouraging local participation and leadership, working collectively to build and strengthen community, promote well-being and social cohesion, and provide a voice for people to advocate social change.
