The BOP Karate Association was founded in Tauranga in 1985 by Sensei Rangi Ken Smith who has practiced Shotokan Karate since 1980.

Sensei Rangi was trained and graded by a 8th Dan Karate Master to an International 5th Dan Black Belt, and is also Sports Coaching NZ Certified.

Karate improves fitness, health and flexibility, and helps to instill self-discipline and self-confidence. Karate also teaches students valuable techniques in self-defence.
