The Kaikoura Coastal Track is a breathtakingly beautiful two day walk. Discover a coast with abundant marine life, tussock covered tops and farmland. Tramp through bush filled gullies to views of the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains rising out of the vast Pacific Ocean.

What are you waiting for? This exclusive coastal walk is an ideal weekend getaway. Your hosts will take your luggage freeing you to walk unhindered. Each night you’ll enjoy comfortable upper-end backpacker accommodation provided by conservation minded farming families with a huge knowledge in the local area.

A reinvigorating walk for those of reasonable fitness, 13km per day.

Warm, clean cottages with hot bath/showers and fully equipped kitchens.

Only 10 people on the track per day, you’ll have it to yourself.

Easy access by either bus or car, begin and end at the same location.

Walk with your best companions, enjoy wonderful scenery, fresh air and exercise. At the end of the day relax with a hot shower, soft bed and fresh pillow. The luggage is even taken round for you by mailcar so you walk with only a day pack!

Walkers find it very easy to access the track as it begins and ends at Ngaroma on Conway Flat just 8 minutes off SH1, 40km south of Kaikoura.

Hosts will pick up from the Conway river bus stop on SH1 or there is safe parking at Ngaroma.

You don’t need to be super-fit, the 13km of track per day is easily achieved and there is time to take plenty of rests and photos. Each day has a lunch hut with gas and all you need to make a hot drink.

The track includes areas of ancient matai kahikatea and totara protected by QE 11 covenants and the owners have received awards for their conservation projects.

Sharing their coastal farmland with many walkers from all round the world for the last twenty years has been a life enriching experience for the Macfarlane and Handyside families and gives walkers a chance to explore off the beaten track with the comforts of life laid on!
