The Hauraki Waka Ama Inc Club was created to provide opportunities for whānau in gaining confidence within individuals and their whānau whilst paddling on the Awa and Moana of Hauraki.
The club was established to:
- Promote the use of Waka Ama
- To provide an avenue for whānau to connect better with each other and other whānau.
- To connect with the Awa and Moana in Hauraki.
- To create an opportunity for whānau to
achieve success at different levels from personal satisfaction through to a competitive environment.

Hauraki Waka Ama Inc is committed to creating
a Healthy Whānau environment and encourages healthy lifestyle practices amongst all those who participate in the Sport of Waka Ama.
The emphasis of the Club is to create good whānau relationships and offer a Sport where all
whānau from mokopuna to Kaumātua can participate and enjoy the benefits Waka Ama can provide.
The Hauraki district has a unique affinity with Water and we have always been a Sea Faring
people. Our Tupuna travelled here by Whale and Waka and up in till around 50yrs ago, the use of Waka was the main form of transport for
our people.
Many stories have been told of how our people used the waterways to stay connected with each other and as a means to travel around the rohe.
The Awa and Moana were used for many
purposes from carrying tūpā paku to going to church. From Fishing to travelling to school, the waterways were once viewed as a major factor that contributed to Iwi growth and development.
Our Waterways were once considered to be our highways, which in turn assisted our tupuna in leading good healthy and fit lifestyles.
Through the Hauraki Waka Ama Inc Club, a main goal is to use the Awa and Waka Ama as a
way of connecting our Iwi with the rohe again.
Waka Ama is also seen as a method to foster Whānau Ora and growth amongst our whānau,
Hapū and Iwi.
