The Eggsentric Story

It begins with Dave being born into the Fowell family, known as chooky from an early age. So he ends up starting a free range egg farm with his wife Denise and family near Hahei and selling eggs around the peninsula. They became known as the ‘Egg people’. With his passion for food and cooking it was a natural progression to add value to the eggs and so The Eggsentric Café was hatched in 1998 playing on the family name, the poultry farm and the eccentricity of the Coromandel and its people.
Given the opportunity to keep the Eggsentric alive Sam (Dave’s son) and Alesha have taken over. With inspiration from Dave and their shared experiences in working and living in the Coromandel, Sam and Alesha bring new energy into the rich history of The Egg. Sam’s experience as a skipper on a local longliner has made clear the importance of using fresh local seafood and produce. This philosophy introduced by Dave from the beginning and preserved by the Egg team plays a central role in the creation of Eggsentric’s iconic dishes. From those before us, Sam and Alesha hope to create a dining experience worthy of the world famous beauty of the Coromandel peninsula.
