Carbon masts are generally made in one of two ways. Depending on the method they will be made using two moulds and joined together (female) or formed using a single mould (male). All our masts and booms are mandrel moulded. What is different about CarbonForce is that our moulds include the mast taper which cannot be removed from the mould using the normal method. How we do it is our secret.
The result is an extremely fair mast using as little filler as possible. The result is an incredibly light mast with NO JOINS in the mast section. The result is lighter and faster cruising.
We have also developed our own method of putting in fittings and wiring which can be removed and replaced, unlike with female masts. They also are light because they are single sections with laminates running full length with no joins or breaks.
So, what does the 33 metre mast weigh? The total weight of the mast completed was approx 400kg. It is certainly fast, yet is engineered for safe ocean cruising. All our masts include all expected safety margins.
