Our Courses:

National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2) (62 credits)

Purpose:
The qualification may be used as the first stage of an apprenticeship or as the basis for pre-trade courses. It is particularly relevant for people wishing to pursue careers in general engineering, machining, toolmaking, fitting, engineering maintenance, engineering fabrication, and marine engineering.

Holders of this qualification have the following skills and knowledge relevant to the mechanical engineering industry:
- Health and safety
- Trade mathematics and mechanics
- Metals and other materals used in engineering
- Fastners and assembly
- Sketching
- Measurement
- Engineering tools
- Machining or fabrication operations
- Welding safety and procedures
This qualification leads to trade qualifications in mechanical engineering and engineering fabrication at level 4 and 5 on the NQF, and ultimately to the National Diploama in Engineering (Level 6).

National Certificate in Welding (Level 3) (68 credits)
This is an introductory qualification for people wishing to pursue a career in welding. It is aimed at preparing candidates to be productive in the use of basic welding techniques in industry.
The underpinning knowledge and skills covered in this qualification include welding safety, measurement, use of hand tools, sketching and reading drawings; welding theory for steel, stainless steel and aluminium, and weld quality assurance.
The practical welding skills in this qualification cover joining of steel, and aluminium, employing the following techniques:
- Manual metal arc welding (MMAW)
- Gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG)
- Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG) and
- Cutting using manual processes
