OSCAR stands for 'Out of School Care and Recreation'. It is a term that has been widely adopted in New Zealand to describe services that provide regular care for school age children (5 โ 13 year olds) outside school hours; that is, after school and during the school holidays.
OSCAR programmes are more than child-minding services. They are opportunities to provide leisure and recreation activities that not only enrich the child but also enrich family life and enhance learning done at school.
