- Vision -

We master strength, confidence and endurance.

We practice a very versatile and effective combat system in which self-defense and conditioning are key. Self-defense provides self-awareness and self-confidence. It provides the peace and confidence you may need in difficult situations.

The system is focussed on controlling body and mind. You will gain perseverance and strength of character. Through mastering the challenges within the system you will learn to master your fears, conflicts and hang-ups.

- Training -

Our course is divided into two parts: fitness and technique

On Tuesday we provide a high intensity training. A 'boot camp' focussed on movements derived from fighting. You will learn to sweat and suffer and playfully, but consequently become a better fighter.
Thursdays there is more attention for the – sometimes somewhat abstract – technique of fighting. The training will include freeing techniques, offence and defence with hands and legs, and the style of execution. All on an individual level.
Besides a very serious approach to training - sweating and suffering - there is also room for humour and relaxation. Breathing technique is one of the many facets of Tang Soo Do. Before and after each lesson we take time for a brief meditation.

In short: We offer everything in-between a proper sweat session to a life lasting physical and mental challenge.

- History -

There is much historical connection between traditional fighting systems.

When Tang Soo is written in Chinese Hanja characters, the pronunciation in Japanese equivalents to that of Kara Te: Empty Hand. This relationship has been strongly suppressed throughout the early years because of the poor relations between Japan, China and Korea. Many Katas (forms) from Karate styles are similar and even carry the same name.
From 1936 to 1945 Grandmaster Hwang Kee combined Soo Bahk Do and the Tang (Chinese) method and initiated the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan martial arts institute.

Tang Soo Do is designed as an effective form of self-defense. In the contests however appearance, style and mastery of (defensive) techniques play a key role. The competitions are organized mainly to encourage cooperation and fraternization between practitioners worldwide. Sparring is fighting under the 'non contact' or 'point stop' system. Again to focus on the control of techniques to ensure the safety and exclude injuries as much as possible. Enjoyment of the experience is key.

- Yung Hap -

Our name Yung Hap translates to fusion or merger.

The action, process, or result of combining or uniting. The Korean writing characters not only refer to the literal meaning but also to harmony and the togetherness of elements within a whole.

This concept can be found for example in the design of the flag of Korea and in the process towards earning a black belt, but also in the philosophy of our national, European and global Tang Soo Do organizations (NTMB, EMTF and WWTF): to join in, to share and expand like-minded martial artists.

Chairman and head coach of our association, Koert Broekman, has over twenty-five years of experience in Tang Soo Do, including twenty years of teaching. He has won four recent Dutch Championship titles, European and World Championship titles.
Many senior members have also won numerous national and international prizes.

Set up as a non-profit organisation, we are passionate and committed to offer you traditional martial quality.
You are more than welcome to try out our 'way'. As proof of our cordiality, your first month is for free!
