Worldfestival Parade Brunssum 4.88

A festivious week full of worldly dance, songs and hospitality….that is what the 2016 Brunssum parade is all about. It is a 4 yearly returning event and originated for the first time in 1953. Due to solidarity with the victims of the water flooding in Zeeland the Carnaval was cancelled that year. Alternatively there was a small folklore festival during the summer. This has grown to a worldwide initiative, the biggest dancing parade in the Netherlands and one of the biggest in Europe. The 10th Parade was the largest CIOFF festival in the world (1992).

During the 1996 CIOFF world parade a total of 75 groups from 60 different countries visited Brunssum to sing, dance and make music during 10 great days. Next to traditional elements also contemporary dance and music culture was introduced in 2004, highlighting a new beginning of the parade.
