Vrije Academie Gemak 4.51

De tentoonstellingsruimte GEMAK, was t/m 2015 het actieve onderdeel van Stichting de Vrije Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag, en had als missie om actuele en controversiële thema’s in kunst, politiek en samenleving een podium te bieden; onderzoekend, nieuwsgierig, evaluerend en spraakmakend.

GEMAK wilde het publiek kunst laten meemaken als vertrekpunt voor discussies, lezingen en interviews over een continue veranderende, ‘beweeglijke’, ook kunst- en beeldgrenzen verleggende, globaliserende samenleving ver weg en dicht bij huis.

GEMAK stimuleerde actief experimentele en nieuwe samenwerkingsverbanden met kunstenaars, curatoren en organisaties waarbij de focus lag op nieuwe ontwikkelingen in het hedendaagse kunstenaarschap.

Helaas was GEMAK eind 2015 genoodzaakt de deuren te sluiten.

The mission and vision of the exhibition space and presentation institute GEMAK, the active component of Vrije Academie Den Haag (‘Free’ Academy The Hague), was to present contemporary and controversial themes in art, politics and society; inquisitive, curious, evaluative and challenging.

GEMAK challenged audiences to experience art as a starting point for artistically ground breaking discussions, lectures and debates on a constantly changing, ‘mobile’ and globalizing society, both far afield and close to home. GEMAK was at the center of society, literally and figuratively, and presented art that was food for thought and touched a nerve.

Focusing on new developments in contemporary art practices, GEMAK actively encouraged new and experimental collaborations with artists, curators and organizations.

Unfortunately GEMAK had to close its door at the end of 2015
