The TOOLS Maastricht group seeks to develop and operate a community-based, educational, craft-based fabrication and maintenance facility. This facility (tentatively known as “TOOLS”) will focus on training in metal and art fabrication for community redevelopment projects throughout South Limburg. TOOLS Maastricht is working closely together with the Maastricht-Lab to define, refine, and promote this project. TOOLS would provide South Limburg and more specifically the Maastricht region with a professionally managed facility to provide trainings and workshops for individuals and organizations, to facilitate community improvement projects (i.e. public art) and non-governmental operations upkeep and maintenance. The TOOLS workspace would be partially funded by membership fees and dedicated workspace rental fees. TOOLS will work with industrial and commercial organizations throughout the Tri-Border Euregion in an attempt to source surplus mechanical equipment necessary to equip and operate the facility. Lastly, TOOLS will work with both retired and currently employed craft and trades professionals located throughout the region who are qualified to operate, maintain and train TOOLS members in the safe and proper methods of using the mechanical equipment.
