Els Botman is a visual artist since 2003. As a visual artist she dedicates herself to the awakening of deeper feelings of connection between (wo)man and the essence of life. The omnipresent manifestations of nature - the sun, trees, the earth, water - lie at the heart of her artworks.

One of her key projects is the Sun Project. For more than three years, Els Botman has been photographing the sun in different places and at different times. Normally, we can hardly look at the sun with our bare eyes, as the sun is so powerful that this can damage the eyes. Els Botman has found a way to capture the sun in its own spectrum of colors, at which you can stare for hours without going blind. Through these ‘sun images’, Els Botman wants to offer the public the possibility to connect with the radiating force of the sun. The meditative and healing power of the sun are at the very center of these works. The images fueled the Sun Project, an all-encompassing project to have as many people as possible experience the transformative power of the sun.

The Sun Project is a travelling project. It was inaugurated at the exhibition ‘Première STR’OFF –Itinerary of Senses’ in Strasbourg in 2014. In March 2015 it travelled to Rotterdam where it was presented in 'De Rotterdam', the famous building designed architect Rem Koolhaas. It was susequently presented in Eindhoven (High Tech Campus, Muziek Festival op de Dommel), Leiden (Oude Sterrenwacht) Edam (Grote Kerk). The suns have found their way to numerous homes of private collectors in the Netherlands and abroad.

On October 22nd 2017, the Sun Project will be presented at the SBK Kunstuitleen & Gallery in Amsterdam.

The goal is to create at least 15 Sun-spots in the Netherlands and abroad. The Sun-spots are places where people can meet up, reflect and relax. Where visitors have the time to recharge and be inspired. Sun-spots can be musea, but also public spaces in companies, hospitals, care-centers, and governments.

This page highlights the milestones of the Sun Projects and invites to a dialogue about the art works of Els Botman and art in general.
