Shadow EU-summit 2.24

Today’s students and young researches are the future residents of tomorrow´s cities and therefore should be included in current decision-making processes regarding future cities. The shadow EU-summit is the platform where students, experts and policymakers meet to provide practical, valuable and realistic solutions on a wide range of today’s and tomorrow’s urban challenges.

Program Shadow EU-summit:
The shadow EU-summit consists of a morning program: Masterclass Urban Agenda, and an afternoon program: the Conference Tomorrow’s Cities.

The working method of the Masterclass involves students and young researchers participating in a series of “pressure cooker” sessions to transfer in-depth knowledge and insight regarding challenges provided by a number of Dutch municipalities. The students operate in multidisciplinary teams guided by experts including Luc Nadal; a worldwide expert on Transit Oriented Development, Marcel Meijer; mayor of the Danish Island Samso with the largest CO2 neutral community in the world and Dr. Guido van Os with an expertise in E-Governance.

In the afternoon the conference ‘Tomorrow’s Cities’ takes place offering attendees a platform to exchange innovative initiatives, expert insights and best-practices regarding the central themes of the EU Urban Agenda. The conference addresses issues and challenges facing our cities today and in the near future from administrative and policy perspective. The challenges are grouped into four main topics, each covered per day. These topics are: (1) ‘Green and healthy cities’ (2) Smart cities, (3) Creative and social inclusive cities and (4) Politics and the City.
