Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional dynamic form of yoga. It is the source of most all vinyasa, power and flow style yogas.
Ashtanga Yoga views each student as unique.
While there are particular sequences of postures being taught, they are taught according to the level of the student.
Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means both union and concentration. Its practice aims at harmonizing our bodies, breath, nervous system and mind in a coherent direction to create a state of health, vitality, calmness, clarity and insight.
This is accomplished through practicing postures in conjunction with regulated breathing and concentration, a technique called vinyasa.
The practice of yoga can be learned by anyone, no barrier to age, health, sex, religion.
Some people come to get in shape and to improve flexibility, strength and balance; some to relax and reduce stress; others to re-focus their minds or as a spiritual quest. These endeavours are not mutually exclusive, with regular practice, yoga helps on all of those levels. This is because of the holistic approach, who does not view the body and mind as distinct.
