In 2001 Elio and Tony arrived in Amsterdam with a vision. They were driven by a strong desire for self fulfillment and a passion for cooking. They grew up in the Italian town of Angri in the vicinity of Naples and Salerno. They studied in a prestigious local school for Chefs where they both earned a diploma. Their initial training was done in a local restaurant. But they soon started to travel extensively in other regions of Italy and on their journey they learned the secrets of authentic and healthy cuisine from local chefs and from artisans who have been preparing pasta fresco and ravioli for decades. After they arrived in Amsterdam they both worked for some of the most acknowledged restaurants in town, learning how the Dutch society perceived food and dining. Elio and Tony were young but they knew what they wanted. Not even in their 30’s, armed with their natural instinct for entrepreneurship and their passion for cooking; they embarked on the business venture that is defining their lives.

Pomorosso was first inaugurated in December 2007. La Trattoria Pomorosso, is nothing short of a corner of Italy in Amsterdam. Elio and Tony have worked hard in order to ensure that the quality of their products reflect their passion for cooking. Over the years, Pomorosso has become a meeting point for locals and travelers alike. It is the perfect place to meet people, and share thoughts and a warm dinner, especially during the cold afternoons that are so typical of a winter in Amsterdam. In the summer, Pomorosso is the ideal location for those who enjoy pizza in the beautiful Vondelpark. Pomorosso’s cuisine reflects the best Italian culinary traditions but also a string of modern thoughts.

Considering the success of their first venture, Elio and Tonino decided to open a restaurant in the gorgeous neighbor De Pijp in Amsterdam. For this opportunity they were joined in forces by their long time friends Nicola and Francesca, sous-chef, and you maitre Claudio. Open since September, their new project has already satisfied the appetites of their customers and their ambitions. At the new Pomorosso, you can savor a variety of the most traditional Italian recipes or you can choose to discuss your culinary desires with Chef Elio. To ensure that their pizza is a light and traditional delicacy, Elio & Tony import most products from Italy. Pomorosso’s ravioli are handmade and filled with seasonal ingredients.
