IZAKAYA, a culinary hotspot in Amsterdam, has taken traditional Japanese dining experience to a higher level. In the middle of the vibrant area “De Pijp” at the well known Albert Cuypstraat and minutes away from the Museum quarter you find IZAKAYA. Located at the foot of the chic Sir Albert boutique it offers pure relaxations and indulgence.

International entrepreneur Yossi Eliyahoo (also MOMO Restaurant, Bar & Lounge and The Butcher) is the inspiring brain behind this innovative Asian Kitchen & Bar. The heart of IZAKAYA is the traditional Japanese Robata grill. In full view of the guests the chefs inimitably do their work. Traditional techniques are combined with their own innovative signature, with spectacular dishes as a result. Executive Chef Hariprasad Shetty, known from the Michelin star restaurant ‘Nobu’ in London, is responsible for the composition of the qualitative menu.

Besides the specialties of the Robata grill IZAKAYA has a sophisticated menu of Sakana - a variety of small dishes, Osume – made on request and the Hibachi fire bowl – a Japanese small hot plate on charcoal. In addition, daily fresh sashimi and delicious maki rolls are served. The extensive wine cellar includes top wines from all over the world, of which a selection of 13 wines is served by glass.

IZAKAYA is best translated as ‘pub’, a cornerstone of the Japanese food culture. The concept is authentic but not traditional. The dishes are served on small plates and in line with Asian ‘grazing menus’ guests can order as much as they would like. The dishes are meant to share with one another and they invite you for conversation about new textures and flavours. The vision of IZAKAYA: try at least one dish that you have never eaten before.

IZAKAYA also gives a twist to the bar. An array of house-infused tonics is bestowed, with the Japanese Shochu as the basis. Shochu is distilled from barley, buckwheat and sweet potato. It has proved to be the ultimate basis for the well-being tonics, but also for a wider selection of exclusive and surprising beverages. Of course the more traditional cocktails are also served.

Designed by the internationally acclaimed interior designers BK Architects, the design is based on ancient traditional Japanese areas and inspired by the traditional Japanese five elements: fire, earth, air, water and heaven. The design is simple and authentic, which creates a stylish and lively atmosphere that fits the needs of a cosmopolitan city.
