Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the world's oldest medical systems, with a history of several thousands of years. It is a system of healing based on the Chinese philosophy of the coherence between nature and human beings. Its theories refer to yin and yang, the Five Elements, zang-fu, channels-collaterals, qi, blood, body fluid, methods of diagnosis, the differentiation of symptom-complexes, etc.

Nowadays, more and more people realize that each of the two medical traditions (Chinese medicine and Western medicine) has its own merits and the two systems should benefit from each other's strong points. This integrated approach will ultimately lead to safer, faster and more effective health care. This is why Beijing Tong Ren Tang The Hague aims to integrate Chinese medicine into the current health care system and provides high quality, cost effective health care solutions based on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Your well-being is our concern. A personal approach and treatment is essential to us. Traditional Chinese Medicine is central to our treatment methods. We are convinced that TCM complements Western medicine very well. We have helped many people recover or deal with their physical problems where Western medicine was unable to offer a solution. TCM does not only fight symptoms, but also the cause of the problem. Our treatments are completely tailored to you as an individual. This means it is possible that people with the same health problems (symptoms) receive a different treatment.

Beijing Tong Ren Tang is a household name in China and has a leading position as a production and retail enterprise with, among others, over 1.000 traditional Chinese pharmacies. The history of Tong Ren Tang dates back to almost 350 years ago. In 1668, Yue Xianyang, a doctor at the court of the Emperor, established the company in Beijing.

Tong Ren Tang is now a global market leader of traditional Chinese medicine and has decided to cooperate with Pudu Health Centre in The Hague (the official new name being Beijing Tong Ren Tang Pudu Health Centre BV) since 1 September 2015. This collaboration means we are now the first and only official Tong Ren Tang partner in the Netherlands. From here, Tong Ren Tang will gradually expand its business to the rest of Europe.

In our clinic, we offer various treatments, such as acupuncture, massages and herbal medicine based on the 2.000 year old traditional Chinese knowledge. At the end of this year, we will also open a traditional Chinese pharmacy in our clinic where we will offer the renowned Tong Ren Tang products.

The methods we use are different for each condition. For example: a combination of acupuncture and tuina can be used, or cupping together with acupuncture. We integrate Eastern and Western medicine for the best results.

We offer consults with our specialized Chinese doctors, physiotherapy and preventive massages.

TCM
Our specialists are experienced doctors in Traditional Chinese Medicine and have studied TCM in China extensively.

TCM is a holistic way of healing: body, mind and environment are all influencing each other. TCM focuses on meridians and acupuncture points in the body. Meridians are energy highways that flow through the body and are in connection to our organs and tissues. When the body is healthy, the energy is in balance. When this balance is disrupted, health problems can start to develop. TCM uses effective technics to restore the balance. These technics are visible in our treatments.

Acupuncture:
During an acupuncture treatment, acupuncture points on the meridians are treated with very thin needles allowing the energy to flow freely again.
Scientific evidence shows that acupuncture can stimulate nerves under the skin and in the muscle tissue, which allows the body to produce pain-relieving substances like endorphins.

Tuina:
Tui Na or tuina is a kind of manipulative Chinese therapy, often used in combination with acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Chinese herbs, tai chi and qigong. Tuina is a hands-on body treatment that uses the Chinese Daoist and martial arts principles in an attempt to balance the eight principles of TCM. The practitioner can push, knead, roll, press and rub the area between each of the joints, known as the eight portals, to try to open the defensive (wei) chi to create movement of the energy in the meridians and the muscles. Technics can be soft or very firm.

Cupping:
In a cupping treatment, a flame is lit and quickly placed inside a glass cup. As the fire goes out, the cup is placed on the skin. As the air inside the cup cools down, a vacuum is created, which causes the skin to swell up and turn red due to the expanding blood vessels. A number of glass cups are placed on the body, and each cup will stay on the skin for about 5 to 10 minutes.

PHYSIOTHERAPY
Our chief physiotherapist Paul Gao has studied TCM in China and graduated from Hogeschool Groningen as a physiotherapist as well. He has more than 5 years work experience in different parts of the world. His specialties are headaches and treatment of the neck. He was invited by the International Headache Society in 2009 and 2010 to introduce his special treatment.
