African Architecture Matters is a non-profit organisation that collects and disseminates knowledge on the African built environment. This forms the basis for a wide variety of projects and services; from research, consultancy, social design, assessment and advise, to education and project management.

African Architecture Matters administers an extensive multi media knowledge centre and serves as a network hub.

Africa undergoes tremendous developments and growth, leading to triggering challenges and exciting opportunities for its historically rich built environment. On issues like private, semi private and public spaces, individuality versus collectiveness, formal versus informal, sustainability, all issues Western planners often fail to address successfully, experiences can be learned from the African continent.

African Architecture Matters and its partners work on bridging worlds and widening perspectives in a multi disciplinary way. They address the wide public, the professional, the educator, the student and the corporate world.

African Architecture Matters’ founders share over 50 years of experience in design practice and in architectural debate and research in Africa. In 2001 they co-founded ArchiAfrika, the activist network concerning the African built environment, now operating successfully and independently from Ghana.
