Viva La Milpa 3.1

Viva La Milpa artistas se unirán a artistas oaxaqueños, la producción de un festival gratuito conciencia de los OGM en Oaxaca, México, con altavoces, música en vivo, espectáculos de títeres y el arte en marzo de 2012.
Viva La Milpa artistas también será la creación de folletos educativos para los pueblos. En lugares como Oaxaca, donde muchos de los pueblos indígenas no utilizan el español como su lengua, sino más bien la Mixteca o Zapoteca, una normal folleto de OGM educativo escrito en Español acabaría como iniciador de fuego, porque uno simplemente no sería capaz de entenderlo. Sin embargo, por medio de la ilustración del arte, artistas Viva La milpa va a crear una versión ilustrada de una dirección en la manera de identificar el maíz transgénico y sacarlo de la "milpa" o campo de maíz para que no contamine el maíz criollo que los antepasados del pueblo han estado creciendo durante miles de años.

El maíz es el hilo que sostiene las culturas antiguas de México juntos. Este maíz transgénico, comercial que se está infiltrando en México desde los EE.UU. ha socavado los precios de los agricultores y muchos agricultores han tenido que trasladarse a las ciudades oa los EE.UU. para encontrar otro trabajo para que sus familias no pasen hambre. Sólo las personas mayores se quedan a cuidar la milpa. Por desgracia, ya que los agricultores son desplazados, a menudo dejan a sus tradiciones y lenguas atrás. Para algunos, esto se ve como una injusticia social y cultural, y por medio del arte, Viva La Milpa educa y sensibiliza a proteger y preservar el criollo (nativo) de maíz y las culturas que lo mantiene unido.

Viva La Milpa artists will join with Oaxacan artists, producing a Free GMO awareness festival in Oaxaca Mexico with speakers, live music, puppet shows and art in March 2012.
Viva La Milpa Artists will also be creating educational pamphlets for the pueblos. In places like Oaxaca where many of the indigenous pueblos do not use Spanish as their given language, but rather Mixteca or Zapoteca, a normal GMO educational pamphlet written in Espanol would end up as fire starter because one simply would not be able to understand it. However, through the medium of art illustration, Viva La Milpa artists will create an illustrated version of a directional on how to identify the GMO corn and get it out of “the Milpa” or corn field so that it doesn’t contaminate the criollo corn that the pueblo’s ancestors have been growing for thousands of years.

Corn is the thread that holds Mexico’s ancient cultures together. This GMO, commercial corn that is infiltrating Mexico from the US has undercut the the farmers prices and many farmers have had to move to the cities or to the US to find other work so that their families don’t go hungry. Only the elderly are left to tend the milpa. Sadly, as farmers are displaced, they often leave their traditions and languages behind. To some this is seen as a social and cultural injustice and through the medium of art, Viva La Milpa educates and raises awareness to protect and preserve the CRIOLLO (native) corn and the cultures that it holds together.
