Florencio Villarreal is one of the 81 municipalities of Guerrero, in south-western Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Cruz Grande. The municipality covers an area of 372.9 km². It is named after Col. Florencio Villarreal, who drafted the 1854 Plan of Ayutla that ousted the conservative dictator Antonio López de Santa Anna. Ousting Santa Anna initiated a new era in Mexican politics with the liberals in charge, known as La Reforma. Leaders in Guerrero took the lead in rebelling against Santa Anna's government.In 2005, the municipality had a total population of 18,713.
