The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) managed by the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Office of Assistance Coordination at the State Department, offers assistance, training, and support to groups and individuals striving to bring positive change to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). MEPI partners with civil society organizations, community leaders, youth and women activists, and private sector groups to advance their reform efforts. MEPI’s approach is bottom-up and grassroots, responding directly to local interests and needs.

The Local Grants program serves as MEPI’s most direct means of supporting local organizations. MEPI’s Regional Offices manage the program. These grants are designed to promote positive change, advocacy, and civic activism; strengthen civil society; support citizens’ efforts at economic, social, and political empowerment; expand opportunities for women and youth; strengthen the rule of law; develop independent media; and help communities
work alongside governments in shaping their own futures. MEPI solicits project proposals via our posts in the region, Internet postings on grants.gov, mepi.state.gov and our regional offices.
