What is a Birth Doula?
As a labor support professional (also known as a Birth Doula) we accompany a woman in labor to help ensure a calm and satisfying birth experience for her and her partner. We assist couples in having an enjoyable birth by providing mental and emotional support, physical comfort, and assistance in communication with the medical staff to make sure they have the information that they need to make informed decisions.

What does a Birth Doula do?
As a Birth Doula, we offer:
* Massage
* Counter-pressure
* Utilizing position and gravity for an easier, faster labor
* Relaxation techniques
* Reassurance
* Keeping mom and the partner calm
* Guiding the partner on helping the mom
* Setting up a relaxing environment (music, candles, scents, etc.)
* Informational support
* Suggestions of questions to ask your provider or the staff
* Reminders about your birth plan
* and more!


Services include:
* At least one prenatal visit to chat and go over your preferences (this is in addition to the complimentary meeting where you can ask me questions and get to know me)
* Access to us by phone throughout your pregnancy and the postpartum period to answer questions or discuss concerns about you or your baby
* Early labor support, and assistance in assessing your labor by phone or an in-home visit
* Help in creating a birth plan
* Ensuring a peaceful environment
* Continuous care and support during active labor
* Support through unexpected outcomes (i.e. c-section)
* Breastfeeding support
* At least one postpartum visit to check in on you, chat, and see how you're doing

What do postpartum doulas do?
What a postpartum doula does changes from day to day, as the needs of the family change. Postpartum doulas do whatever a mother needs to best enjoy and care for her new baby. A large part of their role is education. They share information about baby care with parents, as well as teach siblings and partners to “mother the mother.” They assist with breastfeeding education. Postpartum doulas also make sure the mother is fed, well hydrated and comfortable.
