ネパールで英語教育を徹底した学校を建設し運営します。

युमी नेपालले शैक्षिक क्षेत्रमा परिवर्तन ल्याउन रचनात्मक कार्यहरु गरिरहेको छ। र यसको शुरुवात यस संस्थाका सदस्यहरुले आफ्नै गाउँका सरकारी स्कुलहरुबाट गरिरहेका छन् ।

ネパールに学校を建設し、運営します。

NPO法人YouMe Nepal は、ネパール人留学生が母国の子どもたちに質の良い教育を提供したいという思いから2012年8月に結成されました。

ネパールの農村部には、十分な数の学校がありません。そのため、生徒たちは1～2時間ほど歩いて学校へ通っています。
また、カーストの低い層の子どもたちが学校に行くことができなかったり、家事を手伝わなければならないため女子の生徒数が少ないことも深刻な問題です。

YouMe Nepal では、全てのネパールの子どもたちが教育を受けることができるよう、現地の住民たちと一緒に学校建設、そして学校運営をしています。

私たちが建設する学校の特徴
Youme Nepal は、全ての授業を英語で行い、日本の見習うべきところをネパールの学校に取り入れています。また、ネパールと日本の生徒たちの国際交流も努めています。

英語での授業

基本的にネパールの公立の学校で使用される教科書は、全てネパール語で書かれています。いくつかの私立の学校では、英語の教科書が使われていますが、ほんのわずかの学校だけです。英語ができなければ、ネパールで仕事を見つけることは困難なのです。
そこで、Youme Nepalが建設する学校では英語が堪能な教師を採用し、全ての授業を英語で行っています。ネパールでは、質の良い高等学校や大学に行くためには英語が必須です。第２言語として英語を習得すれば、留学できるチャンスを掴むことができるなど、彼らの将来の可能性が一層広がります。

日本の見習うべきところを取り入れる

日本の学校では、時間通りに授業が始まるのが当たり前ですが、ネパールではそうではありません。ネパールの学校で働く先生は、お酒を飲んで教室に来たり、授業に遅刻したり、また平気で２～３週間学校を休んだりします。
その結果、毎年ほとんどの生徒が中学校卒業試験に合格できず、彼らはマレーシアやサウジアラビアなどの国へ働きに行くのです。そして、１日１５時間、週６日働かなければならず、月収は１万円～３万円ととても低賃金です。また、過酷な環境で働くため無事にネパールへ帰ることができるか分かりません。
そこで、時間を守る、自分の言ったことを実行するなど日本人の良いところをネパールの先生や生徒に伝え、実践してもらっています。今後もより教育の質を向上するため、日本の教育システムを取り入れていきます。

ネパールと日本の生徒たちの国際交流

現在は手紙やビデオレターを交換するなどといった国際交流をしています。このように国際交流をすることによって、ネパールの子どもたちも日本の子どもたちも「外国の友達ができた！」と大変喜んでくれます。そして、日本の子どもたちには、自分たちがどれだけ恵まれた環境で勉強できているのかということについて認識してもらいたいです。またネパールの子どもたちには、先進国である日本の子どもたちと交流することにより、一生懸命勉強に励むことを期待します。今後はもっと様々な方法で国際交流ができるよう努めていきます。

Local Context: Necessity of an English Medium School

There is a government school in the locality, however, as any government school in Nepal, the quality of education in this school is extremely low. As a result, EVERYBODY failed in SLC (School Leaving Certificate - equivalent to grade 10) last year.Whether or not they fail SLC Board exam, almost every youth goes to Malaysia and Middle East countries namely, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Dubai and Qatar as labor workers where they work for a mere 120 to 250 US dollars per month. Unfortunately, the education they receive in government school does not equip them with real technical and vocational skills to make a living!

Gender discrimination is still rife in the society. Therefore, very few girls go to government schools.Even those who can go, they have to finish house chores before leaving for school. Lastly, caste
discrimination is also strictly prevalent in the community. Even to this day, people from Sarki, Damai and Biswakarma(from low castes) are discriminated in every walks of life including education. This long existing discrimination in the society has severely damaged the dignity and put severe psychological impact upon the children of these low caste community.

Private schools in Nepal provide quality education however, they are expensive. As the people here are poor, there are no private schools. Therefore, YouMe Nepal School is a very effective way between the good but effective private schools and poor government schools. This is truly a new innovative idea which has a potential to bring genuine changes in the society.

1. To make first class English basis education accessible to children in their own remote village.

2. To promote girls` education.

3. To discourage youth from going to Middle East countries as labors by providing them quality education that will enable them to make a better living within Nepal.

4. To foster a better and harmonious community by providing education to all the kids regardless of their caste, color and religion.

5. To conduct exchange programs between Japanese and Nepalese students.
