I am a certified middle school math teacher and have taught 6-8th grades. I've been a math tutor and mentor at university level (while obtaining my undergraduate degree). I enjoy teaching and helping students build self confidence in math. I am a strong believer in the fundamentals skills of math (simple adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) and believe these are concepts that students need to become fluent in. If the use of the calculator is encouraged by the student's teacher I allow it, but I believe that that students must be able to do basic computations through the use of paper and pencil. Some of the objectives that I am capable of tutoring are algebraic reasoning: patterns and relationships, properties of functions; number sense: place value, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing, conversion of rational numbers, properties of real numbers; geometry: area, perimeter/ circumference/distance, volume; measurement: Pythagorean theorem/distance formula, angle measurement, metric conversion; data analysis: probability, properties of charts, ratios/proportionality.

I prefer to tutor in your home or library.
