Mino is a city located in the Gifu Prefecture of central Japan, founded on April 1, 1954.As of July 2011, the city has an estimated population of 22,447 and a population density of 190 persons per km². The total area is 117.05 km². The city is renowned for traditional Japanese Mino washi paper and its streets, which are in the style of the early Edo period (1603-1868).An urban area known as "Udatsu Townscape" (うだつのあがるまちなみ) is designated as an important traditional building group conservation area by the government on May 13, 1999.Kozuchi TownKozuchi Town is a town that was once in Mugi gun, Gifu Prefecture. The town was located in the center of the current Mino City, along the Nagara River.It turns out that this town is the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara.Mino TownIn 1911, this town was renamed Mino Town from Kozuchi Town on the old town name in 1911 .
