International Calvary Academy (ICA) was conceived as a vision given to Yamato Calvary Chapel’s Senior Pastor, Dr. Tsugumichi Okawa. Under his leadership, Yamato Calvary Chapel has served Japan for over 50 years. An unwavering commitment to the inerrancy of scripture, a passionate desire to serve God and man faithfully combined with a compassionate love for Japan and her beautiful people and culture, Yamato Calvary Chapel has been at the forefront of bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to Japan through Spirit-filled praise and worship, balanced and authoritative Biblical teaching, and an atmosphere filled with the unifying Spirit of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Okawa is the President of ICA and his desire is for ICA to impart that very same Spirit into the coming generations who will rise to prominence as they lead the future of Japan. Today, Japan faces the worst economic down-turn since World War II. Lay-offs in the corporate world and the loss of direction in Japanese politics as well as education, has brought a heavy burden of discouragement to our land culminating in unprecedented suicide rates. ICA’s mission is to impart the light of hope into the darkness of discouragement by empowering young men and women to live in the grace of God and the power of His Spirit. To provide excellence in education infused with compassion for service and a passion for life.
Mori-Chapel which served as Yamato Calvary Chapel’s main sanctuary from 1992 through 2000 serves as ICA’s campus. A roomy play area and well equipped classrooms, including a computer learning laboratory, provide students with a fun and challenging atmosphere to grow both in knowledge and in spirit.

PURPOSE: At ICA, we believe education is a vehicle to honor God by imparting His life and purpose into future generations. Education’s primary purpose is to help parents raise their children to understand the Creator and His handiwork through every educational discipline.

MISSION: ICA’s three-fold mission is, 1). Provide an excellent international education firmly grounded in the Word of God; 2). Raise leaders who are able to dialog with and serve their local and international community; 3). Send out Leaders who are filled with the Spirit of God, empowered by the hope of the gospel message of Jesus Christ into all sectors of our society.

PHILOSOPHY: The primary source of education in any society is the family. Therefore we believe in the traditional Biblical definition of family and marriage. The educational institution or “schools” assist each family to fulfill their God given mission or “calling” to educate. The Church provides Spiritual formation and direction. The Family, School and Church work together as an educational “trinity” to help raise children of outstanding character. We believe that Christian families should be connected to a local church. The educational institution (school) should be administered under the authority of the local church. Thus, healthy children with a clear sense of identity and purpose are raised to serve their local community and the world abroad.

ICA CURRICULUM: As a K~12 International Christian School, ICA’s curriculum is firmly based on the time tested principles of scripture. We are a member of Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and much of our curriculum is published by Abeka books. All of our classes are taught in English and students are expected to speak English while on campus. An extensive and rigorous core curriculum is supplemented with a diverse range of classes that prepare students for a lifetime of learning and growth.
