Details

Takashi Murakami is opening Bar Zingaro to connect with his Zingaro Galleries that lies in the very heart of the Neo Tokyo sub culture – the Nakano Broadway shopping mall in Nakano, Tokyo.
*Zingaro is a chain of contemporary art galleries run by Takashi Murakami, consisting of 4 different gallery spaces (Kaikai, Hidari, Oz and pixiv) placed throughout Nakano Broadway.
The bar concept creates a meeting place for everybody art interested, while commu- nicating out contemporary Japanese art through the Zingaro galleries seated in the middle of the very sub-culture it grows out of.
The theme of Bar Zingaro is COFFEE, DRINKS, and ART. The concept has been de- veloped in cooperation with Murakami over the last year. The bar serves top quality coffee and alcoholic beverages, and serves as a coffee bar daytime and cocktail bar in the evenings. The artwork in Bar Zingaro will rotate along with the different Zingaro exhibitions – and therefore also work as an extension of the Zingaro galleries.
Takashi Murakami’s Zingaro project, is a concept where cutting-edge contemporary art, anime, manga illustrations, ceramics, and antiques are placed within the diverse world of Nakano Broadway, thus creating a place for the audience to purchase the items as well. It also serves as a showroom for the young Japanese art scene, and supports the activities of young artists participating at Murakami’s art festival “Geisai”, as participants at this combined festival and art competition are further chosen for dis- play at Zingaro.
pixiv Zingaro is a collaboration with the Illustration Communication Service “pixiv”, which exhibits illustrations, graphics and paintings from Anime and Game content. Mu- rakami also displays artworks of his friends from around the world as well as his own posters at Zingaro.
BAR ZINGARO will work as the reception space for the different exhibitions held at the Zingaro spaces in Nakano Broadway.
Takashi Murakami has designed the concept logo and identity, which includes unique- ly branded take away cups, so you can enjoy the Zingaro exhibitions together with a quality beverage delivered by Bar Zingaro – strolling around Nakano Broadway and experiencing the unique Neo Tokyo sub-culture.
