Sumaya Traditional Kyoto-style Cooking School is a cooking school by the 4th-generation okami (owner-manager of Japanese traditional restaurant) of a Kyoto Cuisine (the pinnacle of sophistication in Japanese cookery) restaurant Sumaya which has a deep history of 66 years (1935-2001).

Our cooking classes started in 2007 to share the history and the taste of Sumaya in the form of obanzai cuisine (historical home cooking by Kyoto people).
We integrate sophisticated Kyo-ryori and easy obanzai to deliver the beauty and sophistication to home kitchen. Our recipes feature Japanese diverse seasonal fish and vegetables, which are fresh, healthy, and reasonably priced.

We are conveniently located at Shijo Karasuma in the centre of Kyoto city. Please come visit us to enjoyably touch and taste Kyoto’s cultural depth firsthand.
