City of Kushiro is situated in the southeastern part of Hokkaido. Kushiro is well known for a port city that has flourished since the early 20th century. Also, Kushiro Shitsugen National park is Japan’s largest marshland with an area of 28,000 ha and registered under Ramsar Convention. The park is particularly renowned as a habitat for the Red-crowned Japanese Crane, a Special Naturel Monument.
