Freshwater crabs are the crustaceans belonging to the infraorder Brachyura of the order Decapoda.
Crabs are found in almost all freshwater habitats. They have many ecological and economical importance.
Most of the Indian freshwater crabs show high level of endemism (unique to defined geographical location). Highland crabs are even more restricted in distribution.
