Named after the eminent industrialist and former Indian Civil Service (ICS) officer, Velagapudi Ramakrishna, it was founded in 1977 and has a good reputation in engineering education in Andhra Pradesh. Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College, a self financing institute established in the year 1977.

The institution is ideally located in a vast expanse of 40 acres (160,000 m2) of land on the out skirts of Vijayawada city at a distance of about 6 km from the city centre. It is located in kanuru on the out skirts of vijayawada on Vijayawada-machilipatnam Highway (NH 9). buildings are located in close proximity of each other with wide open spaces all around. The playfields and other student and staff amenities are within working distances from the faculty blocks.
