Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will head the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Development Authority (VMDA) proposed to be formed to oversee planned development of the region to make it the financial capital and an alternative to Mumbai.
VMDA now covers the entire area of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and its suburbs. Jurisdiction now extends over four districts such as Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari with a total area of nearly 5,573 sq km.
